Cypress Mountain, Vancouver?s highest vertical rise, is busy preparing for 2010.
Joffrey Koeman, Director of Sales and Marketing, outlined some of the preparations Cypress is making to host not only Olympic events, but also the FIS Freestyle World cup.
By the time both these events take place, Cypress will have 4 quad chairs, 2 high-speed, and 2 fixed grip units, 2 double chairs, 1 handle tow, 1 magic carpet and 1 tube tow.
The parking lot will be changed and moved to not only maintain the space, but to allow room for the acrobatic events and the tow to accommodate. The lower parking section will soon house the media centre as well as support tents for interviews, emergency and security support.
The Olympic events hosted by Cypress will be snowboarding half pipe, parallel GS, and cross events. For freestyle, the events will be moguls, aerial, and skier cross.
For the public, Cypress is also improving services such as providing arctic and Nordic clothing, ski and snowboard schools and adding an additional lodge to augment their historic Hollyburn Lodge, in existence since 1929.
All in all, these changes represent a 40% expansion of existing runs and 2010 feet of vertical.
